The glorious candy
I have a wonderful friend in the Netherlands named Franka, whom I had the honor of introducing a staple of Western culture to: Jello! In return for her newfound knowledge of that great American "delicacy", she sent me some AMAZING candy from around the world! My mailbox contained two different types of treats, "spekjes", pictured above, and "dropjes". The spekjes are wonderfully soft and fluffy yellow-pink vanilla marshmallowy dreams! I also believe that they are highly addictive. If these things were available in the United States, I think congress would rule that the "Lays Corporation" could no longer hold the rights to the trademark slogan, "You can't eat just one!". Spekjes are much better than any potato chip.
The second treat, dropjes, are licorice flavored circular twirly things. They have a really nifty texture. But, since the spekjes were my favorite, I herefore dedicate this website to my latest favorite treat! Long Live Spekjes!!! Don't you think that Franka is the coolest person for sending these to me?!?! Yes, I thought so.
